The Stevenson Reading Program uses visual mnemonics to make reading easier and more memorable. From recognizing letters to decoding multi-syllable words, each concept is paired with a multi-sensory activity that helps students connect sounds and symbols.

Mnemonic story: “O stands first in line and shouts his sound /o/. A reminds him with a gentle kick if he forgets.”
Peanut Butter & Jelly — long vowels
The sandwich model maps word parts to sandwich layers: bread = consonant, filling = vowel pattern, bread = consonant.
Layer Cake — silent e & suffix rules
The cake helps students visualize structure: consonant, vowel sound, consonant, silent e.
Hard C — mnemonic & movement
Trace the letter shape, say /k/, practice words. The tactile motion + story helps anchor the sound.
