How Does Stevenson Work?
The Stevenson’s Learning Program is designed to help students of all ages build strong reading, writing, and comprehension skills through a structured, sequential approach. The program is divided into levels that introduce essential reading concepts in a specific order, ensuring students gain a solid foundation before moving on to more advanced material.
Beginning Green Level
Ideal for younger students (grades 1–3) or those struggling with consonant sounds, the Green Level focuses on foundational reading skills.
Students will learn:
Letter sounds and phonemic awareness
Double vowel digraphs
Open and vowel-consonant-e syllable patterns
Vocabulary development
Penmanship
Benefits of this level:
Master phonemic awareness and word attack strategies
Build recognition of many sight words for reading fluency
Learn visualization techniques to improve comprehension
Develop writing skills through engaging, structured activities
Increase overall fluency and understanding of texts
Upon completion, students typically read at a second-grade level and are ready to progress to the next level.
Levels Overview
Basic Blue Level
Building on the Green Level, the Basic Blue Level introduces more complex syllable patterns and grammar concepts.
Students will learn:
R-controlled and closed syllable patterns
Diphthongs
Spelling options and prepositions
Grammar including nouns, verbs, and adjectives
Optional introduction to closed syllable CVC words
Outcome:
Students generally read at an approximate 4th-grade level after completing this level.
Intermediate Peach Level
The Peach Level is designed for students ready for advanced reading concepts and content-based learning.
Students will learn:
Consonant-le syllable patterns
Prefixes and suffixes
Latin, Greek, and Anglo-Saxon word roots
Irregular vowel patterns
Includes:
Science and social studies-based reading content
Vocabulary expansion
Grammar and writing skill development
Outcome:
Students typically read at an approximate 7th-grade level upon completion.
